When personal service cannot be completed after reasonable diligence, California courts require a sworn Due Diligence Affidavit before authorizing substitute service (CCP §415.20) or service by publication (CCP §415.50). California courts generally expect a minimum of three to five attempts on different days and at different times of day before granting substitute service or service by publication. We follow protocols designed to satisfy even the strictest judicial scrutiny.
